Each counselor at Camp Woronoak is carefully selected after considerable study of his leadership ability, scouting experience, maturity, and skills. All are trained in scouting skills and leadership techniques prior to the camping season. All are checked periodically throughout the season and rated on their effectiveness to conduct the program. Many are experienced adult leaders returning year after year to serve at Camp Woronoak.
Throughout the camping day the leader counsels the Scouts at play, during Scout advancement opportunities, while planning and sharing at mealtime, and around their campfires. The thrill of adventure is always present; while rowing a boat or gliding across the smooth lake in a canoe, when taking a "dip" in the clean water of a private lake or learning skills for life-saving.
All Scouts and Explorers actively participate in the trail treks, overnight outpost camping, exploring new places, rustic construction, and cooking meals in the open.
In addition to these, varied activities are carefully planned weekly features which follow a "Theme of the week" pattern. Perhaps the feature may be a mammoth Fourth of July celebration, or a camp-wide game throughout the 1200 acres, or an impressive, inspirational campfire depicting world brotherhood.
The Woronoak program is a balanced group of activities aimed at character development and physical fitness accomplished through the scouting game.
