The Springfield Union, Tuesday, August 11, 1953

The fifth in a series of "Operation Waterfront" was conducted at Camp Woronoak, the Hampden Council Boy Scout Camp last week end.

John Mason, Scoutmaster of the Minakamock Unit, guided his crew to victory in the Indian war relay for the fifth consecutive time.

"Gunwale Jumping" was displayed by Alan Wolff, Louis Cherichette, Norman Lablanc, Richard Beddow, Ernest Scheying, and Robert Whitehead.

The senior staff defeated the junior staff in the six-man boat race. The winners were Harry Blodgett, John Mason, Norman Wood, Robert Damon, Lee Graham, and Arthur Trench. The losing crew was Daniel Plant, Joseph Kelley, David Young, Joseph Cavanugh, Ernest Scheying, and Leslie Fournier. Reichard Beddow and Robert Page won the canoe tilting contest.

The two-man canoe race was won by Leslie Fournier and George Fisher.

The grand finale of the waterfront program was a skit by Waterfront Director Daniel Baldyga and his assistant Edward Salamano.
