Camp Woronoak, the Hampden Council Boy Scout Camp, will open its eighth season today. More than 100 Boy Scouts and Explorers this morning will be welcomed by Camp Director Norman C. Wood and Office Manager Benjamin Wood, Jr.
After registering the scouts will report to Health and Safety Director Robert A. Hogg for physicals and to Waterfront Director Daniel Baldyga for swimming classification test.
Welcome From ScoutmastersScoutmasters who will welcome the scouts into their units will be Thomas Dacey, Accomsick; Robert Damon Taukonnocki; John Mason, Minakamock; Alan Damon, Kuppi; Richard Beddow, Koash, and Robert Page, Kinnikinnick.
Dinner at 1 will be prepared by Chef Charles LeHane, Assisting in the kitchen wil be Arthur Trench, Jr., dining hall supervisor, and Ronald Nihll. Robert Whitehead, Gordon Chader, William Figoni, and George Fisher.
The evening program will be supervised by assistant camp director Harry W. Blodgett and James J. Buckley.
Other camp personnel are Edward Salamano, assistant waterfront director; Sargent Whittier, wilderness director; Louis Cherichetti, handicraft director; H. Leroy Graham, business manager; Silas Granger, trading post supervisor; Joseph Kelly, field sports director; Daniel Palant, health lodge assistant; John Foley and Lee Clark, assistant Explorer advisors; and Assistant Scoutmasters David Young, David Lattinville, Edward McGrady, Leslie Fournier, Joseph Kelly, Karl Sternberg, Ernest Scheyhing, Robert Veideman, Norman LeBlanc, Alan Wolf, George Plumb, and Joseph Cavanaugh.
The John C. Norsk Aquatic Lodge is nearing completion and will be for rainy day activities. A rifle range and archery range have been added and instruction in those skills will begin this week. Five new Adirondack shelters are available for troop camping plus a modern winterized cabin with kitchen facilities and fireplace. The waterfront area has been enlarged and additional equipment made available. A new backstop has been erected on the ball field and new sports equipment purchased. The handicraft lodge will be screened and many improvements have been made in other areas.
Scouts still may make reservations for camp at the Scout office at 134 Chestnut Street.
