200 Room Schine Inn to Cost $2,500,000; Other Expansion Plans Told

The Springfield Union - Springfield, Mass - Wednesday, August 5, 1959

NORTHAMPTON - Construction work on the Schine Inn in Chicopee Falls, near Exit No. 6 (Springfield exit) from the Massachusetts Turnpike, will start Sept. 15 and is expected to be completed May 1 next year, G. David Schine president of Schine Enterprises announced at Hotel Northampton Tuesday night.

Last June a representative of the New York architectural firm designing the $2,500,000 motel filed preliminary plans with Chicopee Building Inspector Joseph R Ducharme. The plans showed the ground layout for 200 room, a dining room to seat 275, a 32 lane bowling alley, a large outdoor swimming pool that can be converted to a skating rink in the winter time, parking areas, and other facilities to be located on a 10 acre plot, purchased from the Massachusetts Industrial Park.

Mr. Schine announced that Stephen E Wood, former manager of the Hotel Northampton, is being transferred to Bradley Airport Hotel in Windsor Locks, Conn. to supervise the new restaurant and cocktail lounge to be added there and to assist the project manager of the Schine Inn at Chicopee.

Mr. Schine said the new inn and motel at Chicopee will be elevated so patrons will have a commanding view of the Turnpike and the surrounding countryside. He said this will be the only venture of its kind in New England and will be more than just a highway inn. It will be a center for travelers and local residents to spend a day. << Return to First Dance
